Job Title: Operating Room (OR) Technician

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, an operating room (OR) technician assists physicians and surgical staff before, during and after a medical procedure by preparing the operating room, arranging medical equipment in order and working alongside nurses and anesthesiologists. The individual also assists with reporting and inventory associated with each procedure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepares all documents needed for procedure (HP, labs and exams)

  • Prepares operating room per standard and arranges equipment as needed

  • Ensures all supplies and equipment needed for procedures are available and working

  • Transports patient to the OR and positions him/her on the procedure table

  • Assists in getting supplies needed for procedures

  • Prepares and disposes lab specimens

  • Transports patients from OR to recovery

  • Turns OR over and preps for subsequent procedures

  • Tracks supplies used for each case

  • Assists in procedure notes

  • Follows up with patients next day symptoms

  • Schedules patient for post op. visits if needed

  • Works alongside inventory manager to order supplies needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified as a OR technician preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy

  • Basic Life Support certificate

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including grammar usage, spelling, and punctuation

  • Knowledge of EHRs

  • Excellent patient service skills

  • Patient care and safety

  • Ability to accurately handle equipment

  • Ability to maintain Confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA

  • Ability to work in a team setting and multi-task

  • Flexible schedule

  • Must be able to travel to different clinics on a weekly basis

Technical skill of performing

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented with strong ability to multi-task required and prioritize requests

  • Familiarity electronic medical charting preferred

  • Effective time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and friendliness in working with challenging patients

  • Speak effectively before groups of customers (patients or insurance companies) or employees of the organization

  • Exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations
